Outsourcing Superior
The decline of good jobs has been the defining feature of our economy for some time. The results have been disastrous for working families and the economy as a whole. The trend is continuing in Superior, only this time it is our public employers killing jobs.
UW-Superior is planning to outsource the custodians and grounds maintenance staff to a for-profit company. These jobs have always been state civil service jobs. They were usually full time, paid modest wages, but had good benefits. The 26 affected employees only average about $12 per hour.

August 6, 1945 we dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. The world changed forever. We came under the shadow of a nuclear mushroom cloud that is still with us 69 years later.

I grew up in a small Finnish community in northern Wisconsin. My mom finished eighth grade and went to work to help support her family. Her immigrant parents were farmers on cut-over land. My dad, the story teller, said he was kicked out of school after the first grade. The “Soul of Wisconsin” has had a proud heritage of working together for the good of all citizens,
but it has been bruised and battered by a governor who planned a “divide and conquer” strategy with billionaire, Diane Hendricks, who donated $500,000 to Walker in 2011. The Community of Wausau – Thomas Street Project
In a commendable act of community spirit, the Wausau City Council voted at its July 7th meeting to delay any action on Thomas Street reconstruction to allow time for study of an alternative plan presented by local citizen and architect, Kevin Korpela. It was truly an example of citizens, neighborhoods and officials working together for the good of all.

Unnecessary Plan to Decimate Thomas Street Neighborhood
The Wausau City Council will be meeting on July 8, 2014 at 7:00 PM, and Thomas Street is once again on the agenda. On June 12, 2014 the Capital Improvements and Street Maintenance Committee (CISM) voted to move ahead with widening the road. CISM voted to create a four-lane stretch of road into a two-lane bridge and will be recommending that the City Council vote to acquire about 50 properties along the Street, many of them homes of long time residents.
