Changing Your Ballot

Early voting is underway in Wisconsin’s Primary as of July 26. There have been several candidates in both parties who are no longer running. Among the candidates who have left in the last few weeks are: Democratic Senate candidates Alex Lasry, Sarah Godlewski and Tom Nelson, as well as  Republican gubernatorial candidate Kevin Nicholson. If you, or someone you know, already voted for a candidate who is no longer running for office, it's not too late to void your ballot and request a new ballot. A voter can request to void their ballot by either a handwritten or emailed note to their local election clerk or in person at their polling ...

We Are in This Together

Are you going to do anything about toxic open-pit metallic mining coming to this area? Because of the repeal of the “Prove It First” mining law in 2017, foreign-owned mining companies are planning to develop open-pit mining in Northern Wisconsin starting at the Wausau-Reef and Medford-Bend deposits. Plans also call for developing mining in the Headwaters of the Wolf River in Oneida County near Crandon. It was just announced that exploration drilling is to start immediately. The drilling involves the use of toxic drilling fluids that will be emitted into the water aquifer where you get your drinking water from. Are you going to allow this? ...

Become a Poll Worker

We trust election results because we trust election officials. In Wisconsin, 1,852 municipal clerks have been trained to administer elections. Some municipalities are large enough to have deputy clerks, who are also trained. Each polling place has multiple election workers who are also trained regarding Wisconsin election laws and must be certified by the municipal clerk. These clerks and poll workers are our friends and neighbors who step up to help with a vital civic process. Now, a new “army” is being recruited and trained by partisan actors who question the integrity of our friends and neighbors. They want to disrupt the electoral ...

The World of Botched Abortions

Ward 41 of the old Cook County Hospital in Chicago was home to the department of “septic obstetrics,” which was code for the botched abortions women underwent in the 1960s. Between 1961 and 1965, doctors treated over 20,000 women after their illegal abortions. Their patients were desperate, and they had no other options. Sixty years later, the U.S. Supreme Court has placed us in a new, horrific scenario. Medication abortion is available and safe, but people who seek and doctors who provide abortion care could be risking jail in some states. The court has turned this issue over to extremist state legislators who are increasingly removed from the ...

2022 State Democratic Convention

In response to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler, 1st Vice Chair Felesia Martin, and 2nd Vice Chair Lee Snodgrass issued the following statement: “Today, the Supreme Court, aided and abetted by anti-abortion extremists in Congress, has failed our country and state by taking away Americans’ right to make their own medical decisions. Overturning Roe v. Wade directly contradicts the will of the public, advice of countless medical professionals, and decades of settled precedent and jurisprudence. As a result of this decision, Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban is now enforceable, and ...

Democracy 101: Senator Agard’s Guide to Engaging in Our Government

Due to the outpouring of concern and interest, especially after the recent Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision by the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) overruling Americans constitutional right to abortion and severely threatening the progress we’ve made as a nation over the past half-century, I have created this resource guide for all who are looking to help shape our collective future. Below you will find a menu of options for folks who are looking to unite, engage, and get to work defending reproductive freedom. Please share this with your networks as you see fit and know that this list is by no means exhaustive, and there is ...
