SMART EXPERTISE PRODUCES MUCH-NEEDED MASKS

(This is reprinted from Union Labor News, May 2020)   SMART expertise produces much-needed masks.   After two months of coronavirus, most of us have become connoisseurs of face masks. The best ones achieve a good seal with an embedded aluminum strip that crosses the bridge of the nose.   Where do those come from?   Thirteen million of them have come from unions. The idea for making them came from the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART) which proceeded to get more than two dozen union contractors to donate the material.   Hallie Jennerman and ...

NEW RULES FOR RESISTANCE

Don’t use his name. Remember this is a regime and he’s not acting alone. Do not argue with those who support him. It doesn’t work. Focus on his policies, not his mental state. Keep your message positive; they want the country to be angry and fearful because this is the soil from which their darkest policies will grow. No more helpless/hopeless talk. Support artists and the arts. Be careful not to spread fake news. Check it. Take care of yourself. Resist! Keep demonstrations peaceful. In the words of John Lennon: “When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system’s game. The ...

WITH GREAT FREEDOM COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY

Progressives in our state are working together, more than ever before. With networking on the social media as well as meeting on the sidewalks and town squares, progressives are on the move.   We are carrying a great tradition of Fighting Bob LaFollette, who took on the Robber Barons, the Lumber Barons, the Railroad Barons one hundred years ago.   Democracy is fragile. The struggle to protect the rights of all living things, including Mother Earth, continues. We fought this battle before. We declared independence from the Commonwealth of Great Britain, refusing to be colonized.   We declared that all people have equal ...

TOGETHER WE ARE THE SOLUTION

Together we are the solution. That is the theme of a group working for the Anti-Corruption Act.  The group includes both conservatives and liberals. The American Anti-Corruption Act sets a standard for city, state and Federal Anti-Corruption laws that put power back in the hands of the people. Each Anti-Corruption Act stops political bribery, ends secret money and fixes our broken elections. The Act's specific provisions vary by locale based on Constitutional limitations and the necessity of specific anti-corruption measures.   For a brief description of the provisions of the American Anti-Corruption Act, visit our Policy Platform ...

PROTECT WISCONSIN WATER

Please support Assembly Bill 700 and Senate Bill 632 that would help protect Wisconsin's drinking water.   This bill passed into law would help ensure quicker communication between the DNR and health department and the county land and conservation department in counties where groundwater standards have been threatened by violations made by Discharge Elimination System permit holders.  The entire text of the short bill is HERE. A case in La Crosse County revealed that the county and residents were unaware of a potential risk to groundwater contamination for 10 years.  This is only one example.  The bill requires the DNR to make its approp...
