One of the first actions President Donald Trump and his newly appointed cabinet members ( several of whom are former employees of Wall Street bank Goldman Sachs) plan to take in “Making America Great Again” is to substantially increase our already destructively bloated military budget. It will do nothing to make us more safe. While our corporately directed armed forces are manipulated to pursue pre-emptive, imperialist wars abroad, we as American citizens are being impoverished and enslaved from within. As the above graphics display, our true enemy resides on Wall Street. Our true enemy is the gross inequality brought on by a corrupt financial industry that now controls our government and our lives. Not a shot is being fired and no number of guns can protect us. We suffer a slow death by an insidious, internal parasite that conquers and kills by debt.

There is an alternative. Many US cities and state are studying the feasibility of establishing public banks.

Ending The Rigged Game

Government debt is a deliberately contrived vicious circle – a rigged game designed to transfer the wealth of the nation to an oligarchic, plutocratic few. But the game continues only so long as we accept corruption as legitimate. Caring people across America are working for change. Philadelphia, Oakland Los Angeles, Seattle and the state of Washington are but a few locations where public banking initiatives have been started. The vision and mission statements of the Public Banking Institute speak volumes:

Our Vision:

A transformed monetary and banking system that functions in the public interest, resulting in broadly shared prosperity.

Our Mission:

To inspire, enable, and support public bank initiatives, returning control of money and credit to states and communities.

But perhaps most inspiring of all, the inequality and corruption of our current banking and financial systems are now being recognized as moral issues. Here is what is happening in Santa Fe, New Mexico:

There is cause for great hope.
