CITIZEN ACTION OF WISCONSIN MEETING
Hello Friends,
You are invited to an upcoming meeting that local Citizen Action of Wisconsin members and I are holding next week Wednesday April 20 6:00 PM at the Rib Mountain Goodwill Store. We need your input, can you join us?
We want to discuss a new topic in Wisconsin politics, the Citizen Action of Wisconsin Organizing Cooperative. But first, the back story. Early in 2015 a number of leaders in Milwaukee decided that it was time to try something new to make Wisconsin a better place to live and work. We knew that we needed to launch a new way to organize progressives that did not rely only on large donors or distant foundations, that was not limited to work only on one issue at a time (especially with so much needing to be done to fix our once great state!).
So with the help of union members, environmental supporters, public education advocates, healthcare consumers and political champions we launched a “crowdfunding” drive and successfully organized over 200 dues-paying members to hire our own professional community organizer. Our members have named it an “Organizing Cooperative“. Members own it, we together decided what needs to be done, not large donors.
It has been a success in Milwaukee and most recently, Eau Claire. Elected leaders, new members, active issue campaigns and election canvassing. Now the question is, where else should this model be launched?
That’s why we want your help. We want to know if the Wausau is that next place to launch a member-owned Organizing Cooperative to fight for us before, after and during elections. Join us next Wednesday to discuss this very topic.
