Join us in a facilitated community conversation on September 12 that brings together news media, law enforcement and the public to talk about how we can ensure we’re getting the true story. Climate Change Defines Our Era

Imagine living where all the hard working citizens unnecessarily export almost $15 billion of their hard earned money out of state each and every year. Imagine what those folks could do with it if they kept that money right where they live: a better standard of living for all, better services and more local jobs to be sure. Of course, the folks I'm talking about are us. According to a Wisconsin State Energy Office report that's what we spend every year on the fossil fuels we heat and light our homes and fill our car's gas tanks with - resources we don't have and must ...

MOM AND APPLE PIE

“...remember the ladies, and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands. Remember all Men would be tyrants if they could.” Abigail Adams In 1776, Abigail Adams, the wife of John Adams, wrote a letter to her husband asking that the political and legal status of women be improved under the new government being formed. She was asking that the revolutionary rhetoric about being “created equal” and “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” include women. The founding fathers did ...

THE UNIVERSAL ECONOMY UNIT X: THE SECOND STEP IN FIGHTING THE RICH CLASS WAR – QUIT ACCEPTING THE LIE

We, as working citizens of America, are led to believe a great deal of misinformation about the monetary functioning of our nation. It serves the rich class waging economic war on us. To understand this, we must take a moment to review the operation of the United States as a sovereign nation utilizing a sovereign fiat currency: The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve Bank (the Fed) is the creator of all of the nation’s money. The U.S. Government can never run out of money. Subject to controlling inflation/deflation, there is no limit ...

IF A TREE DIES IN THE WOODS

If a tree dies in the woods does it make a sound? Does it tell us something? Should we be paying attention? My wife and I live in the woods. We are fortunate to have some nice mature trees on our property. Walking through the woods recently, I noticed a nice white pine had inexplicably died. It was a beautiful, healthy, 26 inch diameter tree, maybe 70 feet high. But this summer it died suddenly. Why? Everything dies. Nature is always in flux. Is this normal life and death? Or is this a harbinger of things to come? We don't know why this particular tree died. The most ...

I LOVE PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND GOOD ROADS AND I VOTE

We need to elect officials who will take responsibility for maintaining our public schools and roads. It is unbelievable that local school districts need to hold referendums for money to maintain schools. Seventy-five percent of Wisconsin people support public schools. They realize that public schools are the core of our community and our democracy. We ordinary people are responsible for our property. We take care of broken windows and leaky roofs. In the same vein, public officials need to understand that maintaining our public schools is the order of the day. School ...

Wisconsin’s Choices for Governor

SILENCE IS CONSENT

”The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Edmund Burke, British member of parliament (1766-94) and critic of British treatment of the American colonies. I have been reading a biography of President Harry Truman. This got me thinking about the other presidents we have had since that time. Like Truman, some were Democrats and some were Republicans. Some were liberals and some conservatives. All of them did some good and made some mistakes. All were ambitious politicians who were not as honest as they should have been. But ...
