I am writing in support of the resolution, titled: RESOLUTION TO CALL FOR LEGISLATIVE ACTION TO
PROTECT MARATHON COUNTY FROM THE IMPACTS OF METALLIC SULFIDE EXPLORATION AND MINING.

Drilling plans underway for gold deposits near Wausau and in Chequamegon National Forest
(Wausau, WI) If Toronto-Ontario, Canada based GreenLight Metals has its way, the winter of 2022-2023 will be a busy time for metallic sulfide mine development in Wisconsin. GreenLight has submitted plans to start exploration drilling at many of Wisconsin’s most loved natural features – The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, The Ice Age National Scenic Trail, and The Dells of the Eau Claire State Natural Area, are all being targeted.

Book Banning
An important issue right now is the potential banning of the book Gender Queer from the Marathon County Public Library shelves. The topic is likely to be brought up at the Library Board meeting Monday, Oct. 17, 12 noon in the Community Room at the Library. Many people who think the book is inappropriate for young people have spoken up to the Board members. People with different views may be unaware this issue is even going on.

A very big thank you to everyone for all your hard work and participation in the Peshtigo Parade on Saturday, September 24. I won't name anyone for fear of forgetting someone.
From the initial idea, to setting it all up, to carrying signs and handing out literature, everyone in the Coalition works so well together to ensure success.
The Coalition to Save the Menominee River was highly visible in the parade as we work toward Saving the Menominee River.

Harold A. Peters
Harold A. Peters, age 73, Weston, Wisconsin, passed away at home on September 25, 2022 surrounded by his family. Harry
was born on October 19, 1948, in Lake Forest, IL to the late Harold O. and Shirley E. (Fritz) Peters. Harry married his wife, Mary (Turgeon) Peters on August 17, 1974, and together they raised 2 sons and were blessed with 48 years of marriage. The couple moved from Rhinelander to Weston in 1986.
Harry graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1967 and attended UW-Stevens Point. He retired from Sara Lee Corporation in 2014.

The Coalition to Save the Menominee River 5K
The Coalition to Save the Menominee River held their 5k Walk-athon on Sunday August 28 at Stephenson Island in Marinette. Registration was from 8 AM until the start of the walk at 10 AM. Walkers left Stephenson Island and traveled along the river on Riverside Avenue and looped back to Stephenson Island. Pictured is a necklace that one of the participants, Mary, created. Each bow has the name of a water protector who contributed.
