Hold the January 6 Insurrectionists Accountable

The Jan. 6 Committee has shown us all that Donald Trump was at the heart of a criminal conspiracy against our beloved system of government that ensures our freedoms. He must be held accountable for that. And so, too, must his Wisconsin accomplices. These include the 10 false electors from Wisconsin, who impersonated the real electors and attempted to subvert the will of the people of our state. False elector Derrick Van Orden is running as a Republican to represent the 3rd Congressional District. These also include Sen. Ron Johnson, who offered to hand deliver to Vice President Mike Pence the slate of false electors from Wisconsin and Michigan just ...

Say NO to Lies, Hate, Fear, and Division

Say NO to the lies and the messages of hate, fear, and division that are showing up as ads on TV, Facebook, U Tube, and in your mailbox.  This Russian style propaganda is funded by Republican Billionaires wanting to scare you with lies about immigrants, inflation, and crime so you will vote for their candidates.  Their candidates will pass laws and govern in ways that are favorable to them at the expense of the rest of us.  They are masters of manipulation. Do not fall for this scam.  Your democracy, constitution, voting rights, freedom of speech, health care, social security, Medicare, public schools, national security, and the health of ...

Lifelong Republicans: Let’s return to Grand Old Party

This letter is intended for lifelong Republicans who dislike what the party has become under Trump. If you still support conservation, local control, small government, fiscal responsibility, and using bipartisanship and compromise to help identify and solve problems please reconsider your vote. Election integrity is under fire, not from nonexistent “voter fraud”, but from gerrymandering and laws which deny legitimate voters access to ballots and the polls.  Republicans are not willing to stop there. Republican states seem intent on refusing to recognize popular results of elections. They are poised to allow state legislators or governors to ...

Book Banning

An important issue right now is the potential banning of the book Gender Queer from the Marathon County Public Library shelves. The topic is likely to be brought up at the Library Board meeting Monday, Oct. 17, 12 noon in the Community Room at the Library. Many people who think the book is inappropriate for young people have spoken up to the Board members. People with different views may be unaware this issue is even going on. Gender Queer: A Memoir is a 2019 graphic memoir written and illustrated by Maia Kobabe. It recounts Kobabe's journey from adolescence to adulthood and the author's exploration of gender identity and sexuality, ultimately ...
