CROSSING BORDERS MUSIC

Tom Clowes has been teaching cello and Western-style music in Haitian summer music camps since 2000. So, he started putting on concert programs in the US so others could enjoy this largely unknown side of Haitian culture and its touching music. The result was the non-pro...

OPEN LETTER TO WISCONSIN JOINT FINANCE COMMITTEE REGARDING POTENTIAL SELF-INSURANCE PLAN POWRS (Protect Our Wisconsin Retirement Security), February 19, 2017 Dear Joint Finance Committee Members: POWRS has closely followed events leading to the Wisconsin Group Insurance Board (GIB) approval of the self-insurance program proposal. We believe that since the health insurance marketplace is already in turmoil due to dismantling of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), conducting such a radical change puts not only public employees, but all insured citizens and ultimately Wisconsin ...

“The madman Trump is more symptom than cause—the rational outcome of irrational fear.” Dave Svetlik “Barack Obama has it right: Get rid of the very idea of the right and the left and the center. American ideas are fundamentally progressive ideas -- the ideas this country was founded on and that carry forth that spirit. Progressives care about people and the earth, and act with responsibility and strength on that care. That was the winning strategy of Sherrod Brown in Ohio. Brown is a thoroughgoing progressive who never moved one inch to the right. He talked about the issues where he agreed with his Ohio audiences -- and legitimately ...

"The Dark Side is not stronger. It is, as Yoda taught us, 'Quicker, easier, more seductive.' I still believe that love will have the victory. Let us make sure that our means, our way, our method, is as refined as the beloved community goal we espouse." –Omar Safi “We need a new American story. What might we create in this country if we acknowledged that we are all vulnerable people — flesh and blood encasing bodies and minds and hearts that break, not infrequently?” --- Courtney Martin "In honor of Thanksgiving, I’m going cold turkey on my rant-and-rave addiction in favor of something that’s already proving a whole lot more life-gi...
